Attended the Board of Supervisors meeting Tuesday - dynamic was different - there seems to be better communication between Supervisors and ease in running the meeting.
Community Justice Center and Mission Street Theater vote to override the mayor's veto failed .
Two "messy" items - Community Justice Center will be up for budget cuts anyway and the Mission Street Theater vote was because of a clerical error.
Supervisor David Campos continued his "Campos rules" indicating that if the Mayor vetoes legislation based in some one's District, the mayor should contact the Supervisor first and advise the Supervisor that he is going to veto legislation in their district (sounds right to me).
Supervisors are proposing items to increase revenue including vehicle license fees, gross receipts tax and set-aside legislation being proposed by Supervisors Mirkarimi, David Chiu and Elsbernd.
Supervisor Bevan Dufty said there should be three actions at the same time : consideration of budget cuts, give backs from employees and increased revenue. As Supervisor Dufty said "I would put everyone in a locked room until they came up with a solution". Sounds good - especially if the Mayor was in the room!
At 4 p.m. there was a demonstration by San Francisco Educators and Parents to Stop the Budget Cuts. They handed out badges that said "Stop the Race to the Bottom! Protect Public Education". Petitions are being gathered to protest cuts.
